"Were there lots of others?" She asked as she settled down into him, still flushed and breathless.

"Others?" He said quizzically, his breathing slowly returning to normal.

"Other women, before me."

"Does it really matter?" He asked, looking down at her, all dishelved and beautiful and his.

"Just a little."

"No, not lots. Not even many. But there were a few; I won’t lie to you. What brought this on?"

"Nothing really. I just heard Cordelia mention someone named Virginia to Gunn, and when I asked her who it was she got really quiet and said no one."

"Leave it to Cordelia. Virginia was my first, my only, real relationship. There were women, one or two, but it was never anything . . .well, never anything other than physical."

"But it was more than physical with Virginia?"

"Fred, believe me you have nothing to worry about. I didn’t love Virginia. I’ve never loved anyone but you," he said softly, pulling her closer to his body, and marveling at how amazing it felt just to hold her in his arms.

"I know. I’m sorry. I’ve just never . . .I’ve never loved anything like I love you. I didn’t know I could," she said quietly, trailing a hand across his chest.

"Fred, look at me," he said, putting a hand under her chin and bringing her eyes up to meet his. "You have my heart. You have all of me. Nothing and no one is ever going to change that."

"I know," she said, brushing her lips against his softly. "Sometimes I just need some reassurance."

He smiled, and when their lips met, she found all the reassurance she could ever need. She always did.
